Holy Smokes and Jesus....

It seems like forever since I updated this thing. I have been so busy lately that I haven't had a chance to update. See that's what happens when the weather gets warmer, folks are always OUTSIDE!! Me included!! This weekend was cool, in spite of the Pistons losing that Game 7. I finally checked my email and read some of the comments you all left...I know, I know, I talked BIG SHIT but the Pistons gave it a gallant effort and I commend them on a great season in spite of all the drama that took place early on.

Weekend Recap:

-- Took off on Friday cause I was NOT feeling like coming in to work after watching that Game last Thursday night. Mainly chilled at the crib and cleaned up. Went out later on that night to one of the local watering holes and had some MORE drinks with my buddy Mikey... got home and Crashed. Saturday, didn't do to much cause it was like in the upper 90's for the better part of the day so that meant pretty much staying in the AC till the sun went down....had some people come thru and watch the Mayweather vs. Gatti fight..and let me tell you...pound for pound...Floyd Mayweather has to be the best fighter out there now...I mean the headshots he was giving Gatti seemed like they were locked on with laser precision...*smh*..it was brutal...Sunday, hit up like 2 BBQ's and came home and watched American Me...*Awesome movie, I know its like 3 hours long, but I HAVE to watch it whenever it comes on..lol*

...and that brings us to Monday morning around these parts and back to the grind once again...I am looking forward to this weekend though, cause you know its GOING DOWN starting this Friday!! And in case you have NOT heard..*yeah right*...this weekend is the Chicago Blogger Blowout! I can't wait for those of you who are coming to make it here. I just know it will be a BLAST and  I want to personally thank Ms. Keish for putting it all together and Golden for being the brainchild behind it all!! * Smooches to the both of you!!*

Yes, you know I am on here to talk shit today.....so for those of you who are San Antonio fans you may wanna go to the next link on your Blog Buddy List..LOL

Detroit did just what I knew they would do last night. They realized that their backs were against the wall and their dicks were in the dust, but they went into San Antonio and TOOK Game 6. So ummm put the Cristal back in the fridge and reschedule that victory parade for sometime far in the future cause its all about the Pistons REPEATING!!

I read Nikki's post about the game and she gave you guys the quick and dirty so I won't go into to much detail about it. I am on here basically to talk shit to certain S.A fans...*cough* Muffin , RPM *cough* who just knew that it was a wrap for the Bad Boys..LMBAO.

Okay, I won't rub it in too bad and I guess I should give a real post today....

Let's see....some random shit on Kelzz's mind:

--A little clarification of the term ManWhore for certain folks that had NO idea what the hell I was talking about in my post from yesterday.

ManWhore- A man that willingly performs favors, particularly of the sexual nature, for exclusive female clientle. ManWhores may or maynot appear as normal everyday people. The range of sexual favors can go from one end of the spectrum to the other. Fees range dependent upon the region said manwhore covers.

--Why is it that they can all of a sudden find Edgar Ray Killen guilty after 41 years and they couldn't prosecute him in 1967...4 years after the murder of those civil rights workers mind you....all cause one female juror (read: fellow redneck) back then had a "conscience" and didn't feel right convicting a preacher...Bitch.Please......

--and to tag on to that he is facing 20 years in prison....let's see....

80 Years old now + 20 Years in prison = Too Little Too Late.....

-- Why can the Messicans sell watermelons @ 2 for $5 bucks and at Jewel and Dominick's the same watermelons..(smaller ones even) sell for $2 lbs. ????

-- Why in the hell does it seem like the time to renew city stickers was just like a week ago??

--Why the hell did Senator Dick Durbin make those remarks about the detainees being held at Guantanamo Bay?..and then apologize because he started feeling a little bit of the heat?? You only speak what's on your mind playa.....

Okay I know that's a piss poor excuse for a post, but shit, its Wednesday what did you expect from me?? LOL

...Bachelorhood, ManWhores, and a few shots of Patron

You know everyone has a story to tell...that's what I always hear folks talking about. Well let me tell you all, I have a story to tell if you have a minute.

Had a few folks over for Game 5 of the playoffs ( In which Detroit lost..DAMMIT!!) and we were all having small talk throughout the evening. Of course there was alcohol involved, so the once everyone got nice and the drinks started flowing I met this female, I will call Red, that one of my buddies invited over and we are just chit chatting about the usual stuff. The conversation eventually veered toward relationship status and where either of us stood with regards to our specific situations. Now you all know me, Mr. Pro-Bachelorhood, began to explain to Red that after all the shit I've gone thru that I am just cool being single right now and am in no rush to jump into anything serious at this point in my life. Almost immediately Red gives me this bewildered look like I had just rambled off something in Greek or Latin. I ask what the look is all about and she begins to tell me that she can't believe I don't want a relationship at 30. I am like what's so strange about that? I know alot of folks my age that are still single and its strictly by choice. Yes I admit there are good and bad points to being single and I thought that today I would state my defense here for you all

-Pros to being single

--Well the one thing that jumps out in my mind is the fact that being single you don't have to deal with being committed to anyone. Now before all the women start giving their computer screens the evil eye while reading this, I am not saying that there is anything wrong with being committed if that's what you seek. I am just saying that alot of people underestimate the amount of trust that goes into being exclusive with one person. I have dealt with enough bad situations to know that commitment is a huge thing and should not be taken lightly.

--Being single allows you to meet a plethora of people at get togethers, BBQ's, social outings (read: bar scene) and whatnot so you get to interact with alot of different personalities. Now I know myself that I am a s.o.c.i.a.l.b.u.t.t.e.r.f.l.y. and like to mingle at functions. Network if you will. Many of you know that I am into the real estate thing a little bit and all kinds of people are also into it as well. I have met some very good contacts this way and still talk to them to this day.

-- Being a single man, I never have to worry about the letting the toilet seat down..*wink*

--Always having the option to go out with a good mixture of people. By this I mean that being single can allow you to date or go out with a couple of people simultaneously. Some people hate to date. Some people love it. I will just say this, you get to meet some interesting characters either way it goes and I think that the people that hate to date have just ran across to many of the strange characters..LOL

-Cons to being single

--Now just like the good, here comes the bad. Being single can suck at times too. Especially in the winter....let me rephrase that...In the winter in Chicago!! I don't know about you all, but I only like the cool crispness of the sheets in the summertime. It can be a bitch sleeping alone in the winter!!

-- Being single can be a bitch too if you hate to date. I mean the whole dating process. From the initial invite all the way up the ending of the date. Dating is like work when you think about it. There is all this preparation devoted to spending a few hours with someone ( unless you get lucky and it turns into an overnight thing..hehehe) that you may never even talk to again. Who came up with this madness?

--Holidays. Holidays suck being single. There is no special person to find that gift for. Nor can you look forward to receiving that one special gift from a significant other. Going to visit family and friends where you know there will be other couples is another thing that I dread. I usually show up there alone and don't get too much flack about it cause everyone I happen to visit kinda already knows my situation and knows that I am focused right now so that lends me some leeway. And that makes me wonder why women catch hell if they are late 20's early 30's and still single...why is that? Double standard? Maybe.....

..well I am sure there are tons more, but I said all this to say that nearing the end of the convo with Red, I told her just what I said here initially....Being a Bachelor does NOT equate to being a ManWhore!! Which is what she probably thought before I broke it down to her the way I did here...LOL

that I start to get homesick all over again....

Yesterday was Father's Day. And before I go any further I want to take a moment to give props to all the dads out there that are doing the damn thing and being in your shorties lives. Next, to all those that wished me a Happy Father's Day, I want to say thank you again. The emails, e-cards, phone calls all meant so much to me....

But, its times like these that make me being in Chicago and Deja being in AL really hard. I actually went to a couple of BBQ's on yesterday and its like the dads were really having their day. I really was wishing my little angel was here with me. I got the phone call as I do every Father's Day, but it didn't hit me till this year for some reason...my little baby isn't a baby anymore. I mean she will ALWAYS be my heart and a baby in my eyes, but when she called yesterday afternoon and we talked on the phone, she sounds so mature and like such a lady, that it almost brought me to tears. I never would have dreamed that I wouldn't be there for all the things a little girl looks to her daddy to be there for. I came to Chicago almost 10 years ago and I have always had inner turmoil amongst myself for leaving her when she was so small. I used to beat myself up asking whether or not I did the right thing by leaving to try to make a better life for my baby.....

You see I will admit that I have not always had my shit together, but I have always tried to do what was right for the most part. And I will admit that I used to be into the streets and ran with an unsavory crowd when I was younger. I won't get into all the wild shit I used to get into, but trust me, coming to Chicago probably saved my life as well as allowing Deja to actually have a dad that could take care of her. Once she was born, my whole outlook on life changed. I was only nineteen when I had her and being nineteen, trying to go to school, work two jobs and take care of her was no easy task. Hence the move to Chicago, to remove myself from the element that I was in at the time. A fresh start if you will. Maybe that's why I struggled with this for so long..(along with the help of a crazy ass ex-girlfriend who constantly reminded me that I left her and asked how could you do something like that) before I finally realized that even though we may be hundreds of miles apart, I am with her everyday just as she is with me...in spirit...but days like yesterday that make me get all emotional and want to have her here with me.

Deja's mom and I have an understanding, a mutual respect for each other that took a minute to establish. You see she too stayed mad for a long time because I left, but as time passed and she saw that I was able to provide for the baby, she finally came to terms with the fact that I did make the right choice, she just couldn't see it at the time. I just thank God that I had the good sense to know I couldn't stay in AL around that element that I was with and still take care of her the way I should. She visits in the summers and thats all fine and dandy, but I really wish she was here more often. I want to be there for her the way a little girl's daddy should be when they need them. Sure she can call and I can call but that face to face interaction is still missing. Questions about boys, dance recitals, help with the homework, I am not readily accessible. I don't know how many other dads are in this situation, but I am and I know it can be taxing at times...

I just get like this every year and I know as more time passes and she becomes a teenager, it may even get worse...*shrug* Who knows....all I do know is that being a Father on Father's Day and not having your child around can be a bitch if you let it..... 

...Is there such a thing?

...I was talking to a friend just yesterday and the whole topic of marriage came up...Now don't get your panties all in a bunch, Kelzz is not about to jump the broom or anything drastic like that, but the topic came up....how I have no earthly idea.

We were talking about what true love really means and how do you know when you have found it or it has found you...I know everyone has their own perception of what love is and what constitutes actually being in love with another person. I myself can only say (based on my perception of what true love is) that I have actually been in love with two women in my entire life. Deja's mom and a girl I dated a few years when I first came to Chicago. Now how many I have lusted after, been in lust with, drooled over, wanted to take to the telly to bump uglies with...that number hasn't been invented as of yet, I don't think..lol But how do you know when you are truly in love with another person? I know all the cliche things that people say about the butterflies in the stomach at the thought of that person, the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you are about to see them, even if its the 1,000,000th time you have seen them, the person you would kill for, etc. I know all of that, but in layman's terms, I need a broken down definition of what it means, for my own personal knowledge. Yeah, I know we all say it to people we care about and those we hold close to our heart, but what does it really mean?

Then following the natural course of events the topic of marriage came up. Now I will be 30 in a few weeks and I can honestly say that wanting to get married and maybe having a Kelzz junior has crossed my mind....for a HOT second..LOL, but it did cross nonetheless. I would love to have a son to carry on the family name, since I am the only one that can do it and neither of my sisters have any children to date. I have Deja, but when and if she marries will probably change her last name or have that hyphenated thing happening...

**Sidenote** Has that become the new thing now for the new millennium women, to have hyphenated last names?? I mean I can't remember seeing so many of them until just recently, is it because they have little faith in the marriage and want people to know their maiden names just in case shit don't pan out??...hhmmm**

But with the way things are today, divorce rates just as high as marriage rates, all the technicalities of actually getting married, material possessions, this whole down low shit happening all over the place, I mean is it really within reason to expect to live out the rest of your days with one person. Waking up to that one face for the rest of your life? I don't know. I thought and thought about that question as I drifted off to sleep last night and I couldn't come up with an answer...I know there are married folks that will read this and I would just like to know how you guys feel about it? Is that really possible to spend the rest of your life with one person? Chevonne wrote about her parents 25th anniversary just the other day and I thought that was very commendable because you just don't hear about marriages lasting that long anymore, hell to even make it to 5 or 10 years is a huge accomplishment in my opinion. My folks have been together for 31 years and everytime I see them it just makes me get all warm and fuzzy inside. They still go on dates and do things that new couples would do...after 31 years of marriage. And this is after all the kids ( My sisters and I) have moved out, finished college and are living our lives....I asked my dad and he told me that now is the time to enjoy each other. They spent a large portion of their lives raising us and now that we are all doing okay they get to live it up....LOL. It just amazes me when I think about it and makes me wonder...Is there such a thing as a TRUE LOVE and if so how do you know when it hits you across the head so you are rendered helpless to its powers??....

That's right bitches!! Detroit spanked that ass last night and fugg what you heard, being at home DOES make a difference!!...LOL

I sat on the edge of my seat till about the end of the fourth quarter, that game last night was so good. And what's funny is that I knew it would be a doozie cause the opening play of the game my man Ben Wallace, who had been relatively quiet in the first two games of this series, stole the ball and took off on a fast break for a dunk...FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME!! Yes, I have said it before and I will say it again, I LOVE THIS GAME!!

The whole crew had good scoring and put up good numbers last night...Tayshaun, Chauncey, Rip, Ben, and even McDyess all got off last night. The Spurs held it together till the last quarter and then they let their emotions start to get the best of them. They started getting real sloppy with the ball and not rebounding well at all. Boards are everything in the playoffs and when you give a team like Detroit two and three opportunities believe me, they will score. All in all it was a good game, the best one of the series if you asked me. I love the fact that this was a must win for Detroit and they came thru in true form. Like the World Champions that they are...

Well that game from last night made the series 2-1 San Antonio and Game 4 will be Thursday night at The Palace, so I already know it will be another nail biter.

...In other news, the floors are done!!

Seriously, when I got home yesterday, the floors were done and I was really impressed. I chose the 16 x 16 tiles instead of the 12 x 12 ones that you see so often. I decided to go with the bigger tiles in this situation because to me they just look nicer. I took a few pics and  posted them over there to the right so you all can see what all the hoopla is about. I will be moving the rest of the stuff back into the kitchen this afternoon. Had to let the grout set overnight to make sure it didn't shift.

...Changing topic, now refresh my memory...did I or did I not say a few posts back that I more than likely would not be updating as often due to the many projects that I had going on?? I did say that right?

Ok. That's what I thought, so why did I get a comment just yesterday from someone that I don't even know that in essence tried to "call" me out....with regards to not having posted in a few days...

Now I am not going to light into said person this morning because I am in a pretty good mood and don't think that its necessary here because I addressed that person via email and told them basically that there are 16813916867963186.7 other blogs that you could read and you don't have to come by here expecting some new hot shit everyday. I update when I have shit to talk about or have things on my mind. Granted I did update more back in the day because I had more free time, which just simply isn't the case right now. I know Kelvin's Corner has become a daily ritual for some, as have certain blogs become for me, maybe its because what I write here is my perception of life and all the random shit I see everyday told from a 29 year old Black Man perspective. Some of it may be serious and some of it may be humorous, but you can count on it being REAL. Not some bullshit I made up...so I said all of that to say that although I appreciate the love and admiration, leaving comments like this will surely get me to block that IP and have you wondering why you can't comment....

Damn, Its Been a Minute.....

Since I have updated. I have been so damn busy lately that I haven't had a chance to write. Its Tuesday and I am in the process of getting my kitchen floor redone and I finally got those gutters put up on last Friday!!!

A Few Highlights....

I know that alot of folks are suprised by the verdict in the Michae.l Jac.kson case and I thought about giving my opinions on the verdict, but decided against it cause to me it was just a spectacle anyway, but just lemme say this...I was really suprised at the fact that they found him not guilty on any of the charges...I kinda knew he would not be convicted of the molestation charges, but I thought they would get him on the giving alcohol to a minor.

....anyway enough about that...I have some bad news to tell you guys...I am in the process of evicting my tenant because she is ducking and dodging me on the rent...I really hate to do it, but business is business and I have tried to work with her, but damn, its the middle of the month and she is avoiding my calls and anyone that knows moi, knows that I am not going to be trying to chase someone down for something you know you should be doing. I had to go out and serve the 5 day eviction papers to her this morning, so that turned out to be pretty interesting. By that I mean that I didn't want a confrontation and had planned on leaving it in the mailbox or maybe slide it under the door, but the "boyfriend" was there and I just knocked on the door and when he opened I handed it to  him. Its like he knew what it was and was sitting in the living room waiting on me to hand deliver it to him??? I am thinking to myself as I drove away, if you can be up this early to vegetate in front of the tube, why not be out looking for work when your lady is about to be put on the street?!?!?WTF....

Crazy, I tell you, just crazy...

Well I am getting new ceramic tile put down in the kitchen and the guys should be done with it this afternoon. Of course I will be taking pics and let you guys check, check it out...LOL

..and by that I mean that since this is the last official workday of this week for me, I shall begin MY weekend this afternoon around 3:30...heh, heh...Konnichiwa Dammit!!

As I am driving to work this morning, I got to thinking about a post that I did a while back about Random Hood Observations and figured it was time to revisit that topic and see if I could update it and maybe add a little twist to it...

Random Hood Observations II and a few "WHY?" Questions

-Lately the weather has been feeling like someone has the thermostat set on HELL, so I have been running the AC at the crib. Now this is usually followed by a brief spell of rain so in between spontaneously combusting and getting drenched I decide to stop by the barbershop yesterday and noticed that they too had the AC on when I got to the shop. It was a Wednesday so the place wasn't too crowded. I go in and we are all talking random shit about the Finals and the new King magazine, just regular shit. When all of a sudden this hype rushes in the shop all frantic and shit asking does anyone have a light for her cigarette. We are all like "Nah". So she makes her way all the way to the back of the shop to no avail. She finally gets pissed and storms back out the front door, but didn't pull the door all the way up when she left so one of the barbers yells out to her to come back and pull the door up....she turns around and gives this nasty look like "Negro Please" and walks away....it was so funny and I hate I didn't have the camera to get a pic of this so you all could see what I am talking about...only in the hood though can a known drug addict walk into a business establishment and clown the way she did. She had the whole place funked up by the time she left!!

- Only in the hood can you go into the local corner store and get all your one stop shopping done and pay three times as much as you would had you drove down the street a little further and went to the Jewel or Dominick's...

- Why is there a currency exchange on damn near every 5th or 6th block in the hood and out where I work in the burbs I have to actually drive around looking for one ???...

- Why is it that the billboards in the hood are plastered with ads for Hennessey, Courvoisier, and Remy and no such things exist in the suburbs? ....

- Why did they just uncover another scandal in Chicago's Water Reclaimation Department that involed heroin trafficking??..Inditements will come down later this afternoon...this one puzzles me because its not like city workers don't make good money already *scratching my head*

- Why do the streets in the suburbs tend to be better maintained than the streets in the city?

- Why do winos and people that apparently have and addiction to alcohol wait outside the liquor store at 7:00 in the morning? Could it be that they think the store will all of a sudden run out of liquor if they don't get there early?

- Why are cigarettes almost $10.00 a pack and people are still buying them like its okay?

....all of these questions were bouncing around in my head this A.M. and I thought I would put them out there and see just what you all had to add as far as what you see in your hood everyday and what is going on that makes you ask....

I think that we need to take a deeper look though. I would go as far as to say back when God and Adam were in the Garden of Eden. You all know the story from Sunday School…..and for those of you who don’t know shame on you..lol

For today I wanna talk about how that conversation would have gone had it been in 2005 and the characters were of the Negro persuasion……particularly those being in the hood’

I can image the convo went a little something like this:

God: Ok Adam, I made this entire World and all the moons and stars and shit, but I know you need a shorty to kick it with so me being the type of playa I am…I am giving you a female….I call her Eve.

God: No problemo, you my nigga right?

God: Okay, so I am gonna leave you two in this here Garden. This whole Garden is yours to do with as you please, Just don’t touch this fruit from this tree right here…..Anything else here is yours….just not this tree.

Adam: Alright cool, we gotchu’

*So instead of the serpent I am gonna use the nosey girlfriend from downstairs…heh, heh.*

GF: ( After she hears Adam leave out headed to work she comes upstairs)

Eve: Not too much, trying to figure out what to make for lunch a little later. Adam said that this whole Garden is ours EXECPT for the fruit from that one tree in the backyard.

GF: And why not that one tree?

Eve: Don’t know girl, he never told me why?

GF: Shit did you ask him?

Eve: Nope. I didn’t care to know.

GF: Well shiiiiiiit, you betta than me. I mean, look at the fruit on THAT tree, hell it has the best looking fruit out of all of them.

Eve: You know what you’re right…..and he didn’t give me a reason as to why I couldn’t use that fruit. You know what, I am gonna make a salad with some of the fruit from that tree and serve it with dinner tonight.

GF: Girl I bet that shit is gonna be off the chain!!! I gotta go back downstairs before one of those little bastards kill each other. Let me know how it turns out….

Adam: Man this salad is da bomb!! Where did you get the fruit from? Our garden? Man this is good!!!

Eve: (All smiling and shit)Yep right off that tree YOU told me not to touch.

Adam: WTF!?!?!?

…..and the rest is history folks…lol. I mean no matter how hard we try….Men cannot overcome the spell that it has on us….sad but true. Man has evolved but not enough to turn down some full lips, pretty eyes and an apple bottom…Lord have mercy....I love apple bottoms..lol

Its been less than 24 hours and I am back on here again....how sad is that?...LOL
After reading thru some of the comments last night and realizing that I still have "Too Much to Rage Against the Machine" about (Copyright Nikki 2005), I decided that I MUST come back for the sake of all things humane...

So now I would like to just give you a few things on my mind...

Kelvin's Random Thoughts...

Now after watching the BEST GAME 7 I have seen in a long time, the Detroit Pistons will be facing the San Antonio Spurs to defend their championship. I swear, this was a nail biter down to the last few seconds. I was really hoping that the Pistons could maintain their composure and get this win in Miami. And they came thru in shining fashion. Led by Rip Hamilton and Chauncey Billups, the Pistons were able to get Shaq in foul trouble and since Dwayne Wade was hurt, he was not really a factor. Now I just have to say this one thing that still puzzles me...Why on the last possession did Wade force the lane and try to draw the foul, knowing he was hurt??? That just didn't seem like a smart coaching move on Van Gundy's part, but who knows...maybe he didn't want to feel the repercussions of NOT having the ball in Wade's hands on the last possession when it came time to face the media and his superiors. I think that Miami should have given the ball to Haslem or someone and let him drive the lane and then dish it out to a lethal 3 point shooter like Damon Jones, but that's just me....*shrug* The world may never know.

In homefront news.....I have a guy coming by to put up some new gutters today. And let me tell you...you don't realize how important gutters are till the rainy seasons start and the elements start to fuck with your roof!! I called this one company and they gave me some RIDICULOUS amount to replace them and I was like...lemme keep looking, so I got a guy that was recommended by my buddy Roc Steady and he gave me a MUCH better price AND I am getting gutter guards to help keep the debris from clogging them up....*wink*

I saw on the news this morning that they buried Emmett Till's body back in the Alsip cemetery that they exhumed him from the other day. I only caught a little bit of the story, but from what I heard the whole thing was pointless......which is what I said in the first place...They put the remains back in the ground and whatever evidence they were able to find I guess they are gonna use to try and convict the old ass rednecks who did it...Whatever.....

I honestly didn't think I would have time to update, but I will MAKE time to because of some of the comments you guys left me on yesterday...its soooo nice to be loved...heh heh
